Rose has a multitude of healing properties, from the superficial to the energetic. If you were to measure the frequency of rose essential oil, you would discover that it has the highest frequency of all the essential oils at 320 MHz. Some use it for more serious symptoms whereas others use it simply for its lovely perfume.

Over 300 components combine to make up this beautiful, luxurious oil and next to lavender, rose is one of the most versatile of all the essential oils. Mythological stories of Aphrodite refer to rose as a symbol of eternal love. Rose essential oil is in fact, an aphrodisiac and nowadays, it is the most popular flower purchased on Valentine’s Day.  Decorating the ground and other surfaces with rose petals has been common practice during celebrations, from ancient Roman feasts to modern day weddings.  Commonly used for well-being and happiness, some consider rose to be the most euphoric of all oils.

For more practical purposes, rose is found to be effective in combatting grief, anger, fear, stress, depression, anxiety and menstrual complaints. Also used in skin care, rose is one of the best oils for dry, dehydrated and tired skin, bringing radiance and softness as it stimulates the elastin-collagen network.  It is also antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, circulatory stimulating and it calms redness, healing broken capillaries, rosacea and eczema.

At Saje, we use Rose Otto (Rosa damascena) which is steam distilled. 4000 pounds of roses will yield just 1 pound of essential oil.  Approximately 70% of all rose essential oil is from Bulgaria. Hand harvested in the morning before sunrise, the rose harvest lasts approximately 3 weeks.  The flowers are picked while the petals are still covered in dew and the essential oil is distilled the same day, as the best oil comes from freshly bloomed flowers.
