Personal development takes dedication, practice and lots of research to achieve. It can many forms, and can be self help related where you are developing yourself on many or one levels whether physical, emotional, spiritual or otherwise; or it can be the development of someone else that you’re assisting in whether on a personal level such as a family member or friend; or on a professional level if you are a life coach, mental health care provider, teacher, or hold another professional title that assists in the development of others. Personal development can include but is not limited to physical (like starting yoga, running, changing or improving eating habits, etc), emotional (like improving self confidence, improving self awareness and knowledge of one’s self, letting go and forgiving yourself and others for the past issues in your life, etc), spiritual (complex level of development and can include meditation, or learning about new spiritual ideas and techniques), and mental (such as using manifestation, changing from negative thoughts to positive thoughts, etc). Of course there are some things which are considered personal development that have not been listed here, the list is long and can be different for everyone – but for the purpose of this blog article, these are simply some examples.
Lots of things can happen which will guide someone into wanting to do some form of personal development. Everyone however, will experience development differently, at different times, different paces, and will have different things that will help them along their path of development. Some of the techniques used in personal develop include but are not limited to yoga, exercise, meditation, crystal and earthing techniques, researching and creating a “personal development plan”, Reiki and many other techniques. Although some may disagree, there is no right or wrong way to achieve personal development goals. You know what you want, you know yourself best, so although the resources available are wonderful tools to assist you, always do what you feel is best for you and your goals. It is not important what you chose to do instead of what it says in some article or book; it is only important that you find something that is safe, positive, keeps you on track with your goals, motivates you, and is something that works for you.
So, how can reiki help? Well, Reiki is able to assist on physical, emotional, mental, chakra, and spiritual levels. Personal development can be stressful, especially if you’re going through stages which are difficult for you to understand or accept, or if you start to question whether what you’re doing is worth your time. Yes. It IS worth it. A session of reiki can help ease away stresses and discomforts that come along with changes; it helps to balance chakras which may be blocked or starting to become unbalanced as you follow your development plan. Stress is a huge factor in causing issues for people who are going through changes in their lives or working on development. The stress can even throw some people off track entirely. Reiki gently returns a peaceful balance and can ease the stress away which will keep the recipient healthy and on track to their goals. Try Saje’s Stress Release oil (http://saje.ca/catalog/product/view/id/621/s/stress-release-4059/category/1165/) if you wish to add aromatherapy to your regime if you’re finding that the process is very stressful. I have not yet tried this oil but the blend contains several oils which are excellent for relaxation and stress relief. They also target chakras in the body to help bring balance. During a reiki session this oil can be diffused or even just a drop or two on a cotton ball under a pillow; which would allow the oils and Reiki to support you in your development plan and melt away stresses from the changes you may be experiencing.
Reiki can also assist in helping to support emotional and physical development. Reiki can assist in detoxifying the physical body while removing blockages caused by the changes and even things such as past emotional traumas. If you’re working on emotional blockages such as low confidence, healing past traumas such as grieving a loved one for example; reiki can assist you in releasing and accepting the things you’re trying to release or help you to achieve greater self love.
It is important to mention that reiki to support your personal development on any level (physical, emotional, spiritual or otherwise), may NOT have the same affects on you as reiki being used solely for relaxation. This is because when you’re using reiki to assist in relaxing, you’re not really looking to do anything else but relax and enjoy the session. If you intend the reiki to assist you kick that bad habit, release past emotions, help you achieve a new state of mind – you’re open to those changes and allowing the reiki to flow better to those areas. While you’re developing and making changes, reiki will flow to where it’s needed, even if it’s just for relaxation. This means that as your blockages move and shift, your mind set changes, and you begin to shift your life over, reiki will also shift with you.
Reiki is great for many other things, but it is very important to remember that regardless your intent for the reiki session, you may not have the same outcome, or same feelings during and after as someone else. Some people experience reiki with feelings of hot, cold, cool, warm, tingly, breezy, or nothing at all. When using it for development, some people experience no sensation changes compared to past sessions, some don’t feel reiki at all, but notice the changes afterwards including less stressed, feelings of more energy, more focused and other sensations.
There are some excellent oils that will support you while you work your goals. Everyone is different but a great suggestion is use a scent which matches what you’re trying to achieve during your development plan and/or reiki session. This is not medical advice but personal experience and suggestions on things you can try should your medical professional(s) of choice believe it is safe for you to do so: Saje’s OM diffuser blend: If you’re going to use reiki while meditating the extra boost from the Cedarwood oil in the blend to ground you will be a great assistant to meditation and reiki meditation when some can feel unbalanced. Saje’s Rain Forest diffuser blend I found worked well for reiki sessions where I needed a bit more energy. The blend works well to bring an uplifting, clear feeling which may assist some working on a physical level to feel more energized or in a more balanced state.
Best of luck to you on your personal development goals!
